PRESS RELEASE: Charlie Fragrances

Written: Saturday 19th December, 2009

BEST FRIENDS

Girls class MUM as their best friend when they reach age 25, it was revealed yesterday (fri).

Seven out of 10 women aged 25 to 40 say their dear old mum is one of their greatest friends, despite arguing like cat and dog through their teenage years.

The average woman concludes their attitude towards mum finally changed when they grew up themselves.

Four in 10 say they learned to appreciate mum more when they moved away from home, whilst 28 per cent say their opinions changed when they had their own children.

And mum is the person girls are most likely to run to for advice on money, health, child care and love life.

Mum is even considered a bit of a fashion guru, as a fifth of girls always get their mum's opinion on clothes, make up and perfume.

The poll of 1500 women was conducted in conjunction with Charlie Fragrances.

Feyza Pulat, Brand Manager for Charlie Fragrances, said: ''We may not like to admit it but as we get older we become more and more like our mothers.

''Many girls clashed with their mothers during the teenage years and we never thought of our mothers as fashionable or cool when we were younger.

''Now we are turning to our mothers for advice on what to wear, our love lives and for their advice on beauty products.

''The survey was conducted on women aged between 25-40 years old, many of these women would have wore Charlie as their first fragrance as teenagers or will have fond memories of the scent as it is what their mother wore.

''Six in 10 girls admitted the first fragrance they ever wore was the one their mother used to wear when they were younger.''

The poll shows that through their teenage years, girls are most likely to argue with mum because they felt she was interfering.

Four in 10 growing girls felt they weren't allowed to make their own decisions, and a quarter now recognise many arguments occurred because they were too similar in personality.

However, by the age of 25, two thirds of women acknowledge that their mum is always the one to give the best and most honest advice.

A fifth of women even confides in, and tells mum more than their partners.

As well as offering invaluable advice on career choices, child care and relationships, half of all girls aged 25 and over also claim mum is the one they go to if they want to go shopping.

Just under half of all girls used to nip into their mother's bedroom to borrow their make up or clothes when they lived at home, and one in five even wear the same perfume or use the same cosmetic brands as mum today.

Indeed for six in 10 girls, the first fragrance they ever wore is the one used by mum.

Feyza Pulat added: ''Remembering the scent you wore as a teenager or what your mother used to wear at that crucial time in your life when you are becoming a woman brings back fond memories of simpler times when we didn't have so many worries in our lives.

''It is only when we leave home or even become mothers ourselves do we truly appreciate all that our mothers did for us, how influential they are on our lives now as adults and how they have become our best friend without us even knowing it.''
