NATION'S ANIMATIONS
Toy Story was yesterday (Thurs) named the Greatest Animated Film of All Time.
Pixar's hit movie, based on toys that come to life, topped the poll of 4,000 film fans, beating Shrek and The Lion King to the top spot.
The 1996 film, featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, tells the story of jealous cowboy Woody, who has to make do with no longer being the favourite toy when space-ranger Buzz Lightyear arrives.
After trying to get rid of Buzz to take back his place at the top of the toy league, the pair both end up lost and have to work together to find their way back to their childhood owner.
DreamWorks's 2001 film Shrek, which sees the loveable green ogre save the beautiful Princess Fiona from marrying Lord Farquaad was second in the poll, followed by Disney's The Lion King.
Since its release in 1994, the film about lion cub Simba has been turned into a West End musical.
A spokesman for www.onepollcashback.com, which carried out the research, said: ''Toy Story was loved by both the older and younger generations and will be viewed for many years to come.
''It was an animation of the highest quality yet to be surpassed to this day.
''Recently, Toy Story has been re-released in the cinemas in 3D and families can enjoy this great film once again on the big screen.
''It's great to see Shrek up there too as I suspect that is one film parents are happy to watch when their children demand it on for the hundredth time.''
Fourth place in the poll of seven to 65 year-olds went to the 2003 blockbuster Finding Nemo.
The film follows protective clownfish Marlin as he battles to find his only son Nemo after he is taken from the reef by a diver.
After making friends with a forgetful fish named Dory, three terrifying sharks, a group of turtles and a massive whale, Marlin finally tracks Nemo down to a fish tank in a Sydney dentist.
With the help of a pelican, Nemo manages to escape the tank and go back to his coral reef home.
Ice Age, which was released in 2002, was voted at number five, followed by Disney classic The Jungle Book.
Seventh place went to Monster's Inc while Disney favourite Beauty and the Beast was at eight.
Tearjerker Bambi and Aladdin completed the top ten.
Other animated films to feature in the top twenty include 101 Dalmatians at number 12, Fantasia at 16 and The Little Mermaid at 18.
