Blonde bombshells earn the most money, a new study revealed yesterday (thurs).
Despite having an 'airhead' reputation, girls with sunny locks bring home more money each month than brunettes and red-heads.
Fair-haired girls take home an average of #1,018.19 after tax and national insurance each month, compared to #937.19 for brunettes and #887.97 for red-heads.
But although they have a steady wage, blondes are more frivolous with their cash, with 35 per cent going into their overdraft every single month.
The average fair haired lovely over-spends by #278.34 a month - giving in to 'can't resist' purchases such as chocolate, shoes and handbags.
The poll, conducted by popular financial website The Motley Fool - www.fool.co.uk, shows that girls with blonde hair SHOULD be good with their money - as more than half know
where their money goes to the last penny.
Two thirds of blondes fully understand the outgoings they manage every month, and 93 per cent know what they spend on the mortgage or rent, bills and direct debits.
Incredibly, 35 per cent of fair haired girls have even invested their hard-earned cash in the stock market, shares or bonds.
But despite having a flair for finances, blondes give in to the temptation of shopping, and end up spending MORE than their disposable income on impulse buys.
Other 'can't resist' purchases - which 38 per cent of blondes would buy regardless of their bank balance - include clothes, cosmetics and magazines.
Sonia Rehill, spokeswoman for The Motley Fool - www.fool.co.uk, said: ''While the results of this survey reveal that blondes are the higher earners and they appear to have a real understanding of their money, non-blondes should not lose heart.
''It's not what you earn that makes you rich, it's what you do with it that counts. Anyone can increase their wealth by investing sensibly in assets such as shares.''
The study shows blondes are incredibly confident with money, so much so 73 per cent would think nothing of booking an appointment with the bank manager to discuss their finances.
And two thirds aren't daunted by financial institutions such as banks, building societies or lenders.
Sixty nine per cent of blonde girls have a savings account, 17 per cent have investments in bonds and 14 per cent currently own shares.
A further quarter have put their money in property in the hope of reaping the rewards in years to come.
And 46 per cent are already saving towards a pension.
But when it comes to treating themselves to the latest DVD or CD, 33 per cent of fair haired ladies throw caution to the wind and prefer to stick their head in the sand rather than acknowledge they can't spend any more.
In fact, 86 per cent of girls regularly check their bank balance and are aware of how much they have to spend on a daily basis.
Sonia Rehill added: ''Life would be very boring if all we did with our money was save, save, save and never spend anything.
''However, by investing some of our disposable income we actually have the potential to make MORE money - the stock market does not know what colour your hair is, which is good news for those girls who feel they deserve a treat from time to time.''
