The average woman dates 24 men and shells out more than #2,000 before finding 'Mr Right', a study found yesterday (Fri).
Research revealed the typical woman suffers through two dozen dates with unpleasant, unromantic or unsuitable blokes before meeting 'the one'.
It also emerged the average date will set back a woman a staggering #85.38, including money spent on hair, outfits, travel and drinks.
This equates to a total of #2,049.12 wasted on 24 dates which came to nothing.
A spokesman for UKDating.com, which polled 2,173 of its members, said: ''Although you cannot put the price on true love, it seems you can certainly put a price on finding it.
''While men are still traditionally footing the bill of the date on the night, this shows how much women are prepared to pay behind the scenes to make each date successful.
''This shows that even in these credit crunch times, women are prepared to invest a significant amount of money to bag their perfect man.''
The study also found seven per cent of women have been on between 41 and 60 dates before finally finding someone to share their life with.
Incredibly one per cent of women said they have been on between 61 and 80 disastrous dates before finding someone suitable.
Researchers found women spend an average of #2.48 on fake tan lotions and potions to give themselves an instant bronzed look before a big date.
A further #12.86 would be spent on having their hair styled, and another #26.55 will be splashed out on a new outfit - with #8.35 of accessories to match.
If girls decide to take public transport instead of driving or being picked up for their date, they'll spend another #3.70 on the tube, bus or train.
And despite liking men who are chivalrous and gentlemanly, most women like to go dutch on a date, spending up to #12.20 on food, #9.60 on drinks and #7.64 on entertainment.
Finally, for those females feeling a bit soppy, another couple of quid will be put towards a token gift such as a card, fags, or even chocolates.
The UKDating spokesman added: ''It shows women can save themselves on average #85 on each wasted date by getting to know someone and chatting online first.
''And we all know women like a bargain.
''Men traditionally don't expect gifts, but this new trend for women to bring a gift certainly wins points with their date.''
The study found that despite splashing loads of cash preparing for a date, a third of women have left halfway through after realizing it was a complete flop and they were sat with 'Mr Wrong'.
One in four women only give a man one date before deciding whether he is 'the one', 35 per cent give someone two dates before deciding to dump them, and 16 per cent make their final decision after three dates.
