OnePoll recently surveyed 1000 parents and 1000 kids aged 5-17.
Stats reveal the difference between kids’ views nowadays and generations past.
There are big generational differences in kids’ plans for the future.
54% of parents polled said they wanted to get married when they were children but only 46% of kids today say they definitely want to get married.
More girls than boys expressed a wish to get married when they grow up (54%). Only 39% of boys said they want to get married.
58% of parents said they knew they wanted to have children when they were young but only 47% of kids say they want children and 34% say they don’t know if they want children.
64% of kids whose parents had their first child aged 22-29 also want their first child in their 20s.
There were also big differences in views about education and dream careers.
Only 40% of parents reported wanting to go to university when they were children but 44% of kids today express a wish to go.
The most popular aspirations for parents when they were kids was a teacher (16%) and policeman/woman (8%).
Many kids today aspire to be pop/rock stars (10%).
Differences were also found in what different generations did for fun.
49% of parents over 55 stated that outdoor activities was their favourite thing to do as a child and 44% of parents aged 35-44 said boards games were their favourite.
The most popular activity for kids today is using an electronic device such as a tablet or games console (41%).
